The 1996 Minnesota United States Senate election was held on November 5, 1996 to select the U.S. Senator from the state of Minnesota. Democratic Senator Paul Wellstone decided to seek re-election. Wellstone defeated former Senator and Republican Rudy Boschwitz and Reform Party candidate and future Senator Dean Barkley in the general election in a rematch of the 1990 Senate election.
