The Unincorporated Far West Region is one of two areas of New South Wales which is not part of any Local Government Area (the other is Lord Howe Island); it is in the Far West containing small towns such as Tibooburra (pop. 161), Milparinka (pop. 55), Silverton (pop. 89). Silverton and Tibooburra have village councils. The region surrounds Broken Hill, but does not include it, which is in the separate City of Broken Hill.
It has an area of 93,299.2km² [1], which is about the same size as Hungary. In 2001 the region had a census population of 1,122.[2] It has the highest gender ratio in NSW, estimated at 134.6 males per 100 females in 2004.[2]
