U.S. Route 36 is a major east–west route in the U.S. state of Colorado. It crosses the Rocky Mountains, starting at the eastern edge of Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park. It then continues southeast through the mountains to Boulder where it becomes the Denver-Boulder Turnpike and Foothills Highway. It traverses east to Aurora where it becomes known as I-70/US 36/US 40/US 287 for 15 miles to Watkins. After the split. it also becomes concurrent with SH 36 for 24 miles at Watkins and ends at Byers. The highway becomes a rural highway passing through several small towns such as Last Chance, Lindon, Anton, and Cope in Washington County and Joes and Idalia in Yuma County. In Yuma County, near Idalia, it becomes concurrent with US 385 near Idalia for about 5 miles. It then leaves US 385 and continues east for about 10 miles where it crosses into Kansas. ^[2]
