The 2002–03 UEFA Cup was won by Porto. Porto defeated Celtic 3-2 in an exciting final decided by a goal in extra time.
[edit] Qualifying roundIn elimination round, notable is Amica Wronki's away win 7-2 over Total Network Solutions team from Wales what remains win with biggest scored goal away ever made by Polish team in European Cup. [edit] First round1This match was played in front of an empty stadium as punishment to Partizan for earlier crowd trouble. 3 of the 5 Turkish teams that participated in the First Round, moved up to the Second Round. Beşiktaş and Denizlispor both moved up to the third round, while Fenerbahçe was eliminated by Panathinaikos. Wisła Kraków stunned Europe with beating Italian club Parma (1-2;4-1). That was one of better performance of any Polish club for some seasons and was greatly appreciated in Poland. [edit] Third round
Beşiktaş and Denizlispor continued their campaigns with Denizlispor stunning Europe, by beating Lyon, and Beşiktaş beating Dynamo Kyiv. Wisła Kraków continued its campaign by beating Schalke 04 (1-1;4-1), again showing great play in attack, and scoring 4 goals in decisive win. [edit] Fourth round
Beşiktaş defeated Slavia Prague to continue to the Quarter Finals and become the 2nd Turkish team to enter the Quarter Finals after Galatasaray. Denizlispor's amazing run came to an end, after loosing to Porto 6-1 and 2-2. Wisła Kraków stopped its campaign on another Italian club, Lazio. In first match in Rome, there was draw 3-3 (with two penalties which Maciej Żurawski made goals). Second match was rescheduled because Lazio's officials said that field on Wisła's Stadium was in bad condition. One week later on, objectively still in bad condition, Wisła's Stadium Lazio won 2-1, knocking Wisła out of Cup. Still its one of better performances of any Polish club during recent years. Beşiktaş' 2002-03 UEFA Cup campaign came to an end after loosing to Lazio. It was one of the best Turkish club finishes in Europe. With that and Màlaga CF defeated after a penalty shooutout against Portuguese side Boavista FC, none of the unranked participants at the 2002–2003 UEFA Cup was left in competition. [edit] Semi-finals
