The U.S. Soccer Foundation is the main charitable arm of soccer in the United States. It was established in 1995 to manage surplus funds generated by the 1994 FIFA World Cup competition, which was held in the United States. The Foundation supports the development of U.S. soccer at all levels. It has provided over $45 million in financial support to help develop coaches, players and referees, especially those in economically disadvantaged urban areas.
