Trevor Goddard (14 October 1962 – 7 June 2003) was a former professional boxer turned actor. His best known roles are Kano in the first Mortal Kombat movie and Lieutenant Commander Mic Brumby on JAG.
[edit] CareerGoddard was born in Croydon, Surrey in 1962, however, during his life, he said in interviews that he was born in 1965. He was said to have an affinity for the Australian lifestyle, and had apparently seriously considered permanently moving to Perth, Western Australia. For much of his career, he claimed to be of Australian descent and often played Australian characters. It was only after his death that his father revealed that Goddard was actually English. Goddard attempted to tap into the Hollywood demand for Australian actors by disguising his thick London accent with an Australian one and was so successful that he was accepted by the Australian entertainment industry as one of its own. He appeared in cameo roles in many television shows before his movie career took off. In 1995, Trevor played possibly his best known role as Kano in the film adaptation of Mortal Kombat. Originally, Kano's character was an American orphan raised in Japan, but because of the praise Goddard received from fans of the game for his Australian rendition of the character, Kano was retconned to being of Australian descent. Additionally, the latest appearance of the Kano character in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe is also modeled after Goddard's look and voice in the film. Goddard also was known for his role in the television drama series JAG as Lieutenant Commander Mic Brumby. After his death, the series paid tribute to him by reshowing a scene from a prior episode at the end of a regular episode that showed the cast and crew singing "Waltzing Matilda", an Australian folk song as his character Mic Brumby left a bar where a going away party was taking place prior to returning home to Australia. He would go on to act in other movies such as Gone in Sixty Seconds and Hollywood Vampyr. Goddard was also featured in TV commercials for Hoover FloorMate. He made his last on-screen appearance in the 2003 movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. [edit] DeathOn 7 June 2003, Goddard was found dead in his home in Los Angeles, California. He was 40 years old. An autopsy later showed that Goddard died from a drug overdose of heroin and cocaine. His death was ruled accidental.[1] [edit] Filmography
