In the beginning of 2001, in the streets of Queens, New York City a rap group was formed under the name "Tres Coronas" (which literally translates to Three Crowns) by three young rappers from Colombia (P.N.O. and Rocca) and Dominican Republic (Reychesta).

With their only goal in mind to “crown” in the world of rap in Spanish and Latin America Tres Coronas began to release various mixtapes that were independently sold in certain parts of the United States, Colombia, France and Spain. Through this, they formed their own music label entitled Parcero Productions. Soon, Tres Coronas gained huge popularity[citation needed] as an underground rap group throughout much of Latin America (especially Colombia and Ecuador), Europe, Spain, France and New York City, slowly living up to their goal of 'crowning' in these markets.

After releasing several mixtapes, they made guest appearances in more mainstream productions such as Chosen Few: El Documental, Hip Hop En Tu Idioma and The Draft 2005. After seeing success in these albums, they decided to tap into the American hip hop market, by releasing their first major label album (under Machete Music) entitled Nuestra Cosa. The album did so well in the respective markets that it would later be re-released as a CD/DVD including five music videos and a documentary about the album and Tres Coronas.

[edit] History

[edit] Rise to Fame

Tres Coronas is a Hip-Hop group that raps about various topics that are similar to that of many urban youths of Latin American descent. Because of this, much of their music has been influential and accepted by many people. They first got their start with the French Rapper Rocca who had already established himself a well-respected and successful French Hip-Hop artist. Rocca was honored at the chance to form a new international Hip-Hop group which would be named Tres Coronas. La Cliqua was the first Hip-Hop group of which he was a member. The main reason for the great success of Tres Coronas is that they are one of few Spanish-speaking Hip-Hop artists pushing the world of rap into Latin America and Spain and their ability to push their mixtape globally and online top Latin rap acts are mostly of Afro-Latino decent from the east coast. Chicano rap is whole different genre. they went on mi trl which then , they made the top 10 live performance on mtv tres.

[edit] Discography

[edit] Mixtape

Released in 2003 and is their first official mixtape (non-album). It includes one of their first major hits "Falsedades" which was later made into a music video. This video is now included in the CD/DVD version of Nuestra Cosa.

[edit] New York Mixtape

Released in 2005 and features major artists such as Jay-Z, La Etnnia among others.

[edit] Nuestra Cosa

Nuestra Cosa, which literally translates to 'Our Thing', was released in 2006. The album's main theme reflects the urban culture and happenings of Latin American youths. Featured artists include many known rappers such as Kafu Banton and Negro Jetro from Panama, Macko from Colombia, and American rappers Infamous Mobb and Total Eclypse from Executioners.

[edit] Street Album

The third official Tres Coronas Album, released in the first quarter of 2007. This album is only sold through their official online store and on their Myspace. The album covers some topics on how they are criticized for being commercialized, supposedly selling out, and how many people didn't expect Nuestra Cosa to do well. Other topics include children joining gangs and the 'gangster life'. This album features guest artists Macko, Sergio Veneno, Chavito, Eye-N-See, and Michael Stuart.

[edit] Controversy

Though the rap group is called Tres Coronas, only two members remain. Rocca and P.N.O.,Reychesta has left the group. The trouble started out when Reychesta had appeared on Boy Wonder's album Chosen Few: El Documental, without consulting the other two members. Things would only get worse. Another event that influenced Reychesta's leaving was the battle over who came up with the group's names, on a video on youtube Rocca and P.N.O are seen telling an interviewer that Reychesta came up with the name though they declines it. Even with the absence of Reychesta, Tres Coronas are still popular and have even been nominated for awards. Reychesta also is still pursuing his rapping career and is feature in Chosen Few 3 soon to be released, where he is referd to as Reychesta "Secretweapon".
