Trent Cotchin (born 7 April 1990) is an Australian rules football player, recruited at pick 2[2][3] in the 2007 AFL Draft by the Richmond Football Club. He was recruited from the Northern Knights under 18 football club, which made the preliminary finals of the 2007 TAC Cup competition. Cotchin wears number 9 for Richmond.

The promising young Tiger struggled with injury heading into the 2008 AFL season and was put onto the long term injury list. Cotchin was declared fit to play by Round 4 and subsequently played three matches for Richmond's VFL affiliate side Coburg Tigers.

Cotchin made his debut against Geelong in Round 8, coming in as a replacement for the late withdrawal of Adam Pattison. He picked up 16 possessions and kicked 2 goals, one of them with his first kick. In his debut match Cotchin played mainly up forward with a few stints on the ball.

After further impressive performances, Cotchin received the Rising Star nomination for Round 12. Trent Cotchin was third in the NAB rising star award with 21 votes. Docker Rhys Palmer topped the poll with 44 votes, one off the maximum, ahead of Hawthorn's Cyril Rioli with 37.

Trent was one of five teenage footballers whose final year of junior football was chronicled in the book "The Draft: Inside the AFL's Search for Talent" by Emma Quayle, published by Allen and Unwin in September 2008.

Cotchin had an injury interrupted start to the 2009 season, not playing until round 8, and managed to put together 10 games in 2009, averaging 18 disposals and taking 40 marks, before his season was cut short by a hip injury.
