Thomas Everett Scott (born September 7, 1970) is an American actor. He is perhaps best known for his starring role as drummer Guy Patterson in the 1996 movie That Thing You Do!.
[edit] Early lifeScott was born in East Bridgewater, Massachusetts to an insurance salesperson mother, Cindy, and a civil engineer father, Bill.[1] He attended Syracuse University. [edit] CareerScott's first notable role was on the sitcom Grace Under Fire; he played the title character's out of wedlock son, whom she had given up for adoption. After several seasons on the show in a recurring role, Scott landed the role in That Thing You Do!. He was almost passed over because of his resemblance to the movie's director, actor Tom Hanks, but Hanks' wife Rita Wilson encouraged Hanks to cast Scott in the role of Guy.[2] Scott has also had several other notable roles; he was the lead in the 1998 film Dead Man On Campus as well as An American Werewolf in Paris. Scott also had a recurring role on the television series ER, and has played numerous minor parts in other films and television shows. In the summer of 2006, he starred in Saved, a hit dramatic program on the TNT cable network. Scott appeared on Broadway as the closeted film star Mitchell Green in Douglas Carter Beane's comedy The Little Dog Laughed, as well as Zip in the off-Broadway play The Country Club. In his most recent film appearance he played one of Mandy Moore's boyfriends in the 2007 comedy Because I Said So. Recently, Everett Scott appeared in four episodes of Law & Order playing Governor of New York Don Shalvoy. Scott also starred as Jack Cutting on the cancelled ABC drama Cashmere Mafia, which debuted on January 6, 2008. He plays Lucy Liu's fiance, an advertising executive, who is in constant competition with her character, Mia Mason. [edit] Filmography
