Timothy Moon-Yew Chan is Professor in Computer Science at the University of Waterloo, Canada, where he currently holds a University Research Chair.[1] His research focuses on computational geometry. He graduated with BA (summa cum laude) from Rice University in 1992 and completed his Ph.D. in Computer Science at UBC in 1995 at the unusually young age of 19.[2] He was awarded the Governor General's Gold Medal (as Head of Graduating Class in the Faculty of Graduate Studies at University of British Columbia), the NSERC doctoral prize,[2] and the Premier's Research Excellence Award (PREA) of Ontario, Canada.[1] He has given a number of invited lectures, notably in DIMACS, MSRI, Max Planck Institute for Informatics, and Workshops on New Horizons in Computing (NHC) in Japan, and also the Paul Erdos Memorial Lecture (2004) in Canada. He serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Computational Geometry and Applications, ACM Transactions on Algorithms, Discrete and Computational Geometry, Algorithmica, and Computational Geometry: Theory and Applications.
