Timberline High School is a comprehensive high school located in the North Thurston Public Schools District in Lacey, Washington. When it opened in 1970, the floor plan was open similar to the Juanita concept. Timberline is located in the city of Lacey and primarily receives students from Komachin Middle School. At one point the school building was also home to the experimental high school, New Century High School. Timberline High School underwent a renovation project and was torn down and rebuilt. It started in 2005 and was completed in 2009. Many students complain of the smaller size of the hallways in the new buildings.

Timberline Theatre Company refers to the mainstage productions Timberline drama puts together. Each season, there are two plays (fall and winter), and the Spring Musical. There was a surge of interest in the Timberline Theatre Company in the academic year 1990-1991, the same year when then student Trevor Carlton was active. Carlton's depiction of then-popular rapper Vanilla Ice in a variety show in the school's theatre provoked interest in the program. In the spring of 1992, an unprecedented number of minority students auditioned for the year's spring musical, Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. A good number of those students were also members of the school's contemporary hip-hop dance crew known as the Highsteppers. In the fall season of 1992 under the direction of Sylvia Sparling, Timberline Theatre Company began auditions for The Outsiders, a book written by S.E. Hinton and a movie made popular in the early 1980s. The number of ethnic minority students in this production increased again with several of the minority students from South Pacific returning. To the surprise of many, most of the lead roles were played by these students who previously had limited-to-no theatrical experience. The Outsiders was a slight deviation from previous TTC productions. Instead of being in the fall, The Outsiders was in the winter (February 1993). It was also a modern-day adaptation rather than being set in the same time period as the actual story. This adaptation may have been reflective of the "gang-culture" that was existent at the school at the time. For the first time however, The Outsiders production involved a somewhat tightly-choreographed and planned fight scene using martial arts for the story's big "rumble" between the Socs and the Greasers. Over the years, the Timberline Theatre Company has won several nominations, awards, and special achievements. In the Spring of 2005, Timberline became the first high school in the United States to perform The Civil War. The rendition earned them eight different nominations during the 5th Avenue Theatre High School Musical Awards, winning Outstanding Achievement for Distinctive Programming.[1] From 2007-2009, the Timberline Theatre Company had relocated to the Timberline Black Box while the original theatre went under construction. The first and only show performed in that space was Bang Bang You're Dead, a drama by William Mastrosimone. Their performance won them a double-superior rating at the Washington State Thespian Festival, one of the highest awarded honors.[2] After moving into the new theatre, the first show performed was Grease. This was Timberline Theatre Company's third time performing Grease. [edit] Performing ArtsPerforming Arts is the advanced drama class. Students audition for this class in the spring. Performing Arts puts together skits for the homecoming/prom assemblies, as well as puts together Wednesday Morning Live, which is a comedy show based on the style of Saturday Night Live. Most students in Performing Arts have been in Drama 1 or Drama 2, and participate in the Timberline Theatre Company. [edit] ChoirThe Timberline Choir is under the direction of Terry Shaw. Timberline has five choirs-four that take place during the school day and one that assembles after school. There are two audition groups, Chamber choir (composed of 16 girls ranging in years from sophomore to senior; 4th period) and Symphonic Choir (mixed choir, aged from sophomore to senior; 6th period). Also during the school day are two non-audition groups, Treble choir and Concert choir. Treble choir is an all-girls choir that meets during 3rd period. Concert choir is a mixed choir that rehearses during 5th period. After school, MAN CHOIR takes place. MAN (men assemble now) CHOIR usually has about 30-40 'men' ranging in age from freshman to senior. MAN CHOIR performs at the winter concert and returns for the spring concert. [edit] Winter FestivalHeld the week before Winter vacation, the Winter Festival is the biggest concert for the arts programs at Timberline. The Winter Festival is held at the North Thurston Performing Arts Center, and is divided into two nights. The first night the non-audition groups perform, and the second night the audition groups perform. This two-day event is both complex and unique, as it is the only concert during the entire year where all the art groups perform. This gives the opportunity for performances involving two or more groups. [edit] Notable alumni
