Three Sheets is an international travelogue/pub-crawl television series formerly shown on MOJO HD in the United States, and currently airs on the Fine Living Network. The title is taken from the popular expression, "three sheets to the wind," referring to one who is staggering drunk. A humorous trip through different drinks and drinking cultures around the world, the show wrapped up its third season on July 10, 2008. Comedian Zane Lamprey hosts as he travels worldwide and engages in local alcohol-related customs. In each episode, Lamprey eats the local food, which is followed by learning about the customs and libations of that area and then experiences the local hangover cure. The series is produced by Screaming Flea Productions.

Contents

[edit] Format

Each episode begins with an overview of the places Zane will visit on his trip. Typically over the course of the episode, Zane will introduce different local alcoholic beverages and frequently spend some time with either a bartender or alcohol-maker to learn more about the drinks discussed. Many times when a new term or item is introduced, a note will appear on the screen to provide further information or help with pronunciation.

A number of recurring segments and gags surface in almost every episode. A voice-over feature starring "The Professor" will occasionally appear to introduce an in-depth history or description of something culturally significant, a locale, or the science behind a particular drink. Zane also often refers to his drinking buddy, a stuffed monkey named Pleepleus, who appears at random points in the show.

[edit] MOJO Network goes off the air

MOJO HD is a now defunct American VOD television channel, owned by iN Demand Networks. As a linear television channel, it replaced INHD on May 1, 2007. iN Demand, the owner of MOJO HD, canceled its MOJO HD regularly scheduled programming on December 1, 2008, but will continue to provide OnDEMAND programs.[1]

[edit] Efforts to return the series to television

With the ending of the MOJO HD network on December 1, 2008, it was unclear whether Three Sheets would continue on another network. The fourth season has been put into production with a majority of the shows completed. Zane Lamprey has personally expressed to the fans of the show to write other networks in an attempt to find the show a new home. The channels that have been asked to purchase Three Sheets are, the Travel Channel, Spike TV, Food Network on which Zane Lamprey hosts Have Fork, Will Travel.[2]

Zane wrote on March 18, 2009:

I've spoken with the new network, and they've asked that I personally make the announcement Three Sheets will be gracing their network. But, they've asked that I wait until the deal is done-- when they assure me is by the end of this week, or early next week. So... Three Sheets is saved. And as soon as I get the official nod, I'll post it here on my web site. In the meantime, if you were at the party and heard Steve McKenna leak the news, please refrain from posting the name of the new network here. I gotta respect our new home. It'll only be a few days now. I promise! [2]

On May 2, 2009 Zane hosted "Zano De Mayo", which became the "We Saved Three Sheets" party. At the function it was announced that the Fine Living Network (FLN) has purchased Three Sheets.

On June 12, 2009 Zane Posted this unofficial message on his website regarding the future of Three Sheets. The show is going to premiere on the Fine Living Network on July 20, 2009.

This is an unofficial announcement, and is not approved by any network. But, you, the beloved fans of the show, have waited long enough, so I'm spilling the beer. On December 1, 2008, MOJO went off the air, and along with it, Three Sheets. At that time, we were winding down shooting season four. And, since we were almost done, we were told to finish off our obligations to deliver 20 episodes. There are actually 18 new, never- before-seen episodes, and one double, 1-hour special that we shot in London. When Three Sheets went off the air, our concern wasn't "if" we got picked up by a new network, but how were we going to chose from the myriad of networks that would want to add such a successful show to their roster. But, for whatever baffling reason, that wasn't the case. It's assumed that many of the networks were taking the show at face-value (a guy travels around the world and drinks), and not taking into consideration the success of the show, incredible fan base, and HILARIOUS and SEXY host. So, "said host" devised a series of SAVE THREE SHEETS rallies (which doubled as pub crawls) to bring attention to the show. Nearly a thousand people marched in Los Angeles and New York City, which got the attention of the press, and even had Mark Cuban, owner of HDNet, personally show up to show his interest in the show. The rallies were successful in their mission, and a new network entered negotiations to buy the show. We were sure that the deal with the new network would be done by Zane Patrick's Day (our party in NYC), but it was not. Steve McKenna, bless his drunken little heart, leaked the news at the event anyway. We were then positive that everything would be wrapped up in time for Zano De Mayo, but that didn't happen either. Steve, again, leaked the news. Now, however, we are very happy to say that the new network will be involved in Zanedependence Day in Chicago. In fact, it'll be the launch party and premiere party for the new season. The celebration will be epic. But, who's the new network??? I'm very pleased to announce that FLN (Fine Living Network) has SAVED THREE SHEETS and will begin airing new episodes in July. They will be making the official announcement soon, and will be giving details on the air dates and schedule, at which point I'll post all of that information here, on my web site. But I can say that it's happening right around the date of Zanedependence Day. I'm sure that if Steve were here, he'd spill the beer once again and tell you that it will premiere on July 20th. But I would never do that. I have tact. Now... What are we gonna do about season five??? Cheers! Zane

[edit] Recurring characters

Throughout Zane's travels, he meets a number of diverse, and unique characters. During the "NY Pub Crawl", several of these individuals returned to the show. These included:

[edit] Steve McKenna

A running gag on the show (see above), Zane's college friend Steve first made an actual appearance during the episode "Three Sheets to Kentucky". During the episode, Steve invented a drink (The Irish American) and ended the episode in typical Steve McKenna fashion. According to episode 4 of season 1.

[edit] Logan "The Beer Hunter"

Logan travels the world always in search of the greatest brews. His zeal for beer was first documented during the episode "Three Sheets to Belgium" where he met Zane at the Delirium Cafe in Brussels. He had a penchant for stealing Zane's beer.

[edit] Jim the Cop

Jim, a New York police officer, ran into Zane in Puerto Rico. He lost a beer chugging contest and returned to the States in shame. He 'contacted MOJO to demand a rematch' to take place in NYC. During the "NYC Pub Crawl", Zane and Jim had a rematch. While the results were considerably closer, he lost again, while spilling a good deal of beer on his shirt. Zane now makes reference to someone who has spilled beer on themselves during the course of chugging a drink as having "Jim the Cop'd". He made a guest appearance during the Las Vegas episode where he wins at celebrity poker, defeating pro player and fellow MOJOHD show host Phil Laak. Jim was a friend of Zane's before the show.

[edit] Pleepleus the Monkey

Pleepleus is Zane's main travel companion, so he does not have to drink alone at times. (Given to him by his wife who appeared in the Las Vegas episode). Zane has said that whenever Pleepleus appears on camera it means he is thinking about his wife Jennifer Roa. Pleepleus is a "retired" Ty Beanie Baby by the name "SWINGER the Monkey".[3]

[edit] Ski Patrol

Ski Patrol is defined as someone a little too interested in free drinks and camera time, usually being fairly intoxicated. This can be anyone that Zane happens across in his adventures. The term was first reference in the Japan episode. The term refers to an un-aired segment in which a creepy guy who wouldn't leave Zane alone tried to get the crew to follow him to a mountain ski patrol where he supposedly worked. In the Gibraltar episode, Zane dubbed a woman as the first female ski patrol on the show.

[edit] Others

Often the crew will appear on camera usually the sound operations manager "sound guy" as known to the audience, and the shows field producer Christina Kindwall. Often Curtis the cameraman will appear but only as a photo image because of his inability to place himself on camera.

Fellow MOJOHD show host Dave Hill (comedian) has been featured on two episodes of Three Sheets in his outfit and persona for his television show The King of Miami.

[edit] Drinking game rules

The show also doubles as a drinking game, introduced in the Costa Rica episode. The rules are as follows:

  • Rule 1: When Zane drinks, you drink.
  • Rule 2: The first person to spot a monkey (including real monkeys or Pleepleus the monkey), makes someone else drink. (Pleepleus shirts don't count.)
  • Rule 3: When Zane mentions his friend, Steve McKenna, everyone drinks.
  • Rule 4: When Zane or anyone burps, the last person to give the "Good Burp" sign (thumb on your forehead, pinky in the air) drinks.
  • Rule 5: If someone in the show "Jim-The-Cops" (spills their beverage while drinking) it’s a social. However, if YOU Jim-The-Cop, you have to buy someone a drink. If you're watching at home, or a friend's house, it’s your turn to make a run to the fridge. If you Jim-The-Cop while in a chugging contest, you get three seconds added to your time.
  • Rule 6: If you ever spot Zane holding a drink improperly, you can make someone drink.
  • Rule 7: Whenever you see a puppy, you drink. Zane creates this rule in the Moscow episode.
  • Rule 8: Make sure you make someone drink when something's blurred out in the show, like Coke products. This rule, by Zane, was found on the Zane Lamprey message center (shopping list for the Cape Town episode).[4]
  • Rule 9: Whenever you drink, drink with a smile. (Just like the lemon in Lithuania.)
