The Thomas Jefferson football team has won WPIAL Class AAA Championships in 1980 at Pitt Stadium and in 2004, 2006, 2007, and 2008 at Heinz Field. Also in 2004, 2007, and 2008, the TJ football team won the PIAA State Championship in Hershey, Pennsylvania.[1] Thomas Jefferson's name has become synonymous with the rich tradition of Western Pennsylvania high school football.

The school newspaper is called the Statesman. The yearbook is titled the Monticello and the literary magazine is named the Spectrum and features fictional submissions written and submitted by students and teachers.

Thomas Jefferson's band consists of close to 200 instrumentalist: Saxophones, flutes, trombones, krumhorns, piano, valve oil, noodle, majorettes, and colorguard each year. The band was featured as the WPXI Band of the week in 1998. The theater program is also highly lauded, winning the Jenna Hayes Awards [1] in 1993 and 1995

[edit] Alternative Education Programs

Steel Center Vocational Technical Facility is an option for students from tenth through twelfth grades to learn trades to become: mechanics, electricians, butchers, and beauticians. It is also one of the few technical facilities which offers students a chance to "major" in "law". Job placement from this facility is very high and students can expect to receive professional training in their trade while still attending school to graduate with a high school degree.
