Thomas Brudenell-Bruce, 1st Earl of Ailesbury KT (30 April 1729 - 19 April 1814). The son of George Brudenell, 3rd Earl of Cardigan and Hon. Elizabeth Bruce, he succeeded his uncle as 2nd Baron Bruce of Tottenham on the latter's death on 10 February 1747. He was created 1st Earl of Ailesbury (of the second creation) on 10 June 1776. On his death in 1814 he was succeeded in the earldom and barony, by his third son, his two elder sons having predeceased him.
[edit] EducationHe attended Winchester College. [edit] CareerHe was sometime Lord of the Bedchamber to King George III, and Governor to the Prince of Wales and Prince Frederick. His name was legally changed by Royal Licence to Thomas Brudenell-Bruce on 29 December 1767. He was Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire in 1780. He was invested as a Knight of the Order of the Thistle (K.T.) on 29 November 1786.
