The Snow Leopard is a 1978 book by Peter Matthiessen, which is an account of his two month journey along with naturalist George Schaller in 1973 to Crystal Mountain, in the Dolpo region on the Tibetan Plateau in the Himalayas.

The Snow Leopard won the 1980 National Book Award for Nonfiction (paperback)

In the years since its publication, the book has received wide critical acclaim.^[1]

The book has been included in numerous lists of best travel books. It appears in World Hum's list of top 30 Travel books of all time. National Geographic Traveler included it in its Around the world in 80+ Books list, as well as in Washington Post's Short stack Travel Books that will take you far.
