[edit] Known plots and guest stars - An episode to air in February and coincide with the 2010 Winter Olympics will feature Marge and Homer taking up curling and participating in a mixed-doubles event with Agnes and Seymour Skinner.[27] The writers wanted an Olympics-themed episode and the script was written by Rob LaZebnik. LaZebnik originally considered having the plot revolve around Homer competing in four-man bobsled but decided a curling episode would allow for the plot to revolve around Homer and Marge.[28]
- Sarah Silverman will play Bart's new girlfriend "who alternately loves him and hates him for no reason."[17]
- Gary Larson,[29] Bob Costas and Angela Bassett are to guest star in yet to be announced episodes.[17][4]
- Sacha Baron Cohen is to play an Israeli tour guide in an episode entitled "The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed" in which the family visit the Holy Land and Homer becomes convinced he is the Messiah. The episode is tentatively scheduled be broadcast on March 28, 2010 (Palm Sunday).[23] In March 2009, executive producer Al Jean said that the writers wanted to produce an episode where the family visits the Holy Land because they had not been there yet. He added, "The premise will be that the Christians, the Jews and Muslims are united in that they all get mad at Homer. It's the only thing they can agree on."[30]
- The band Coldplay will guest star in "Million Dollar Maybe" which sees Homer win the lottery and hires the band to play for him and Bart.[17] Coldplay drummer Will Champion commented on the appearance: "We actually went to [watch] a read-through for an [other] episode about seven years ago. We were staying in Los Angeles and our friend—our manager—I think knows someone to do with the whole program. So we just went down and had a listen, while all the actors were reading their lines and we were just blown away that we were even there. From then, we just thought it would be amazing to make it on an episode. It's definitely one of those moments where you have to pinch yourself. It's been around for so long."[31] It will air January 31, 2010.[20]
- The episode will feature a new character created by the winner of the "Best. Character. Ever." contest, in which fans could submit their own ideas for a new, and possibly recurring, Simpsons character.[32][33] Over 25,000 entries were sent in. The winner of the contest was Peggy Black from Orange, Connecticut, who created the character Ricardo Bomba. She described Ricardo as "someone that all the women love and all the men want to be." Black's inspiration for the character came from the fact that there were no characters like him on The Simpsons, and she thought Springfield needed "something like a Casanova." As part of the winning prize, Black was sent to work with the show's producers in Los Angeles. She worked with the animators to bring the character to life; "I described the character and they drew him so I could see if that was my vision of him. It's amazing to see how they captured what I imagined. He's over the top." Executive producer Al Jean was one of the judges of the contest, which he described as "a thank you to loyal fans." Jean also noted that there is a possibility the Ricardo character might appear on the show again.[20]
- Kelsey Grammer will return as Sideshow Bob in an episode where he becomes a neighbor of the Simpsons.[34]
[edit] 20th anniversary In 2009, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the premiere of The Simpsons, Fox announced earlier in the year that a year-long celebration of the show titled "Best. 20 Years. Ever." would run from January 14, 2009 to January 14, 2010.[35] As part of the celebration, documentary filmmaker Morgan Spurlock will direct and produce The Simpsons 20th Anniversary Special - In 3-D! On Ice!, a documentary special that will examine the "cultural phenomenon of The Simpsons". It will air on January 10, 2010 on Fox.[36][37] Production began at Comic-Con 2009. It will include interviews with the cast and fans of the show. Despite the title, Spurlock says the special "most likely will not be in 3-D nor on ice."[38] For the week of November 9, several Fox shows (including House, Lie to Me, Bones and Fringe) featured clues and homages to the show as part of an "on-air scavenger hunt". Viewers who spot the clues can win prizes at Fox.com.[39] Marge also appeared on the cover of the November issue of Playboy.[40] [edit] References - ^ a b "Fox announces Fall premiere dates for the 2009-2010 season". 2009-06-15. http://www.foxflash.com/div.php/main/page?aID=1z2z1z25z1z8&ID=4967.
