The Postal Order Society is a numismatic and philatelic society which was established in 1985 by Howard Lunn, who became the first Chairman of the Society.
[edit] AimsThe main aim of the Postal Order Society is to promote the study of Postal Orders, postal notes, and related items such as international reply coupons. The Society is a numismatics society, as some of the membership are banknote collectors (postal orders strongly resemble the design of banknotes). There have been four occasions when postal orders and postal notes were declared legal tender as currency. The Society is also a philatelic society, as some members are collectors of items such as international reply coupons and money orders. [edit] Officers and membershipThe Postal Order Society is today administered by a Chairman, who is assisted by the Society's Committee. There are some Overseas Representatives, including one from New Zealand. They are also ex-officio members of the Committee. There were 87 members of the Society, from Great Britain and from other countries (as of November 2005). [edit] PublicationsThere is a newsletter published four times a year, called Postal Order News, which contains articles that have been submitted by members of the Society. Twice a year there is a postal auction of postal orders and related items which is open only to the members of the Society. [edit] See also[edit] External links |
