The Mandalorian Armor is a Star Wars Expanded Universe novel.

[edit] Plot

Shortly after Luke Skywalker and his friends escape from Tatooine, bounty hunter Dengar takes his ship, Punishing One, to search for any salvageable remains near the Sarlacc. In his search, he finds Boba Fett, who jetted his way out of the Sarlacc pit, and takes him to his hideout to nurse him back to health, also agreeing to a partnership with the renowned bounty hunter. Elsewhere, Kuat of Kuat, the manager of Kuat Drive Yards, a spaceship building compound, receives a transmission playing a part of the events that took place at Jabba's palace, particularly those pertinent to Fett. Meanwhile, a slave girl named Neelah finds Dengar's hideout, having placed Boba Fett where he could find him. She convinces the droids 1e-XE and SHΣ1-B to let her speak to Fett, but he is unconscious. She leaves and forces the droids to remain silent about her. However, Fett hears Neelah's voice and remembers.

In the past, shortly after the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, Bossk and his partner Zuckuss are going after an accountant named Nil Posondum, but Fett gets to him first. Aboard Slave I, Posondum tries to cuut a deal; Fett explains that as the Hutts want him, he doesn't want any money he isn't promised and delivers Posondum to Kud'ar Mub'at. However, Mub'at offers him a private job: to join the Bounty Hunters Guild, despite knowing that it will cost him. Fett agrees, not knowing that Prince Xizor, leader of the criminal organization Black Sun, is involved, attempting to break up the Guild to his advantage. Mub'at also has his own plans that even Xizor doesn't know of. Aboard his ship, Fett cleans out the holding area.

In the present, Neelah is discovered by Dengar, and demands to speak to Fett. Dengar is not easily swayed, and demands to know her connection with Fett. Neelah replies that she doesn't know, only that their eyes met in Jabba's palace, suggesting some past involvement. He agrees to provide shelter for her as long as she obeys his orders. Bsck in the past, Bossk encounters Fett once again directly in front of the Guild. Attempting to destroy Fett and Slave I, he triggers explosive devices on the decoy, nearly blowing up his own ship, Hound's Tooth. Bossk and his partner Zuckuss proceed to the Guild, where they learn that Fett has appealed to Cradossk, Bossk's Trandoshan father, to join the Guild, and they are hence partying. Bossk defers to his father, but warns Fett he still doesn't trust his new "brother".

Prince Xizor meanwhile appears before the Emperor and Darth Vader, presenting to them the problem with the Empire- they have no idealists, and the stormtroopers and Imperials are motivated by fear. With the destruction of the Bounty Huntes Guild, Fett and others like him would be forced to work for the Empire, and since they are motivated by greed, they can do jobs the Empire cannot. At the Guild, Bossk proposes to Fett that they partner together to take control of the Guild, which Fett agrees to since it is in line with his own instructions. The Twi'lek majordomo Ob Fortuna meanwhile informs Cradossk of their talk, subtly suggesting that as Bossk went on Cradossk's suggestion that he may actually be plotting against him; the Trandoshan denies this, not knowing that Fortuna himself is in league with Bossk who actually is plotting against him.

In the present, Fett has awoken and he confers briefly with Dengar; they are interruupted by a bombing raid on the surface. After convincing Dengar to take Fett with them, Neelah and he leave, attempting to find an alternate route to the surface as the hideout is blocked. They find a way out, only to discover the Sarlacc is reacting violently in its death throes. Fett, awakening briefly, shocks the Sarlacc into death again, and carries himself and Neelah to the surface, with Dengar's help. Kuat of Kuat receives word of the bombing, and is satisfied that Boba Fett is dead. In the past, Bossk invites Fett on a job involving a team of bounty hunters to capture one Oph Nar Dinnid, a comm handler for the Shell Hutts who found himself in a compromising position with one of the wives. Fett agrees, and Cradossk sends Zuckuss along to kill or see to it that Bossk is killed on Circumtore.

Fett forces the others to wait for D'harhan, a humanoid who had a giant laser cannon augmented to his spine, thus rendering him an actual weapon. Gheeda, the Shell Hutts' highest level negotiator, demands that all of them must disarm before landing on Circumtore. This involves Fett removing D'harhan's power source. Fett explains that D'harhan does not communicate often, and that he rescued an architect from Gheeta who was due to be killed after a job for the Hutts, humiliating the Hutt. Gheeta has placed pheromones at the banquet to cause the Shell Hutts to go insane, revealing that he had Dinnid killed, and with him the bounty. The guards he hired then fire upon the bounty hunters; Fett detonates an explosive charge in the throne, and replaces D'harhan's power source. Nonetheless, D'harhan is killed and Bossk wounded, with the former realizing he should not have trusted Fett.

Once at the Guild, Zuckuss lies to Cradossk, saying Bossk was killed and revealing their plans to a hidden Bossk. Hearing for himself that his father plotted his death, Bossk kills him, while at the same time the breakup of the Guild occurs elsewhere. Kud'ar Mu'bat hears of these events and rejoices, unrealizing that his accountant node, Balancesheet, has grown a little too developed to be safe. Fett, having instigated the breakup, is satisfied with the result.

In the present, Fett prepares for work while Dengar has gone to Mos Eisley to obtain a comlink. Unbeknownst to Fett, Dengar also informs Kuat of Kuat, via a Q'nithian relayer, that BOBA FETT IS ALIVE. The message is intercepted by Bossk, who has been examining Fett's files on Slave I, who then decides to kill him once and for all. As Dengar leaves the cantina, mercenaries Vol Hamame and Phedroi eavesdrop on the conversation, following Dengar to ascertain Fett's survival. Using Neelah as bait, they force Fett and Dengar to surrender; however, Neelah kicks one and Fett summons Slave I, with the three escaping after a short confrontation between himself and Neelah. The medical droids bemoan their newfound states.

Elsewhere, Bossk, having confirmed Fett's survival, fires at Slave I, determining afterward that Fett is now dead. However, he retains a sense of fear.
