(1979)

The Kids Are Alright is a soundtrack album by British rock band The Who.

It was originally released as a double album in June 1979 on Polydor Records in the United Kingdom and MCA Records in the United States. The soundtrack contains the songs that appeared in the movie except for the performances of "Happy Jack" was a leftover from the Live at Leeds sessions. "I Can See for Miles" was from the same performance as "My Generation" on The Smothers Brothers Show but this time the double-tracked vocals are split in stereo. "My Wife" was from a concert The Who filmed for The Kids Are Alright at Gaumont State Cinema in Kilburn, but was later aborted. That show was later restored for DVD and released, along with the London Coliseum concert from 1969, as At Kilburn 1977 + Live at the Coliseum in 2008. "Tommy Can You Hear Me" had a longer outro with Roger Daltrey repeating the word "Tommy" before Keith Moon screams "'ELLO" to end it. "Won't Get Fooled Again" has a different drum solo than the one from the movie - Jeff Stein wanted to get a "definitive end" for the movie, which ended up being this version of "Won't Get Fooled Again" - and it is probably from the original second take of the song,[speculation?] since they had to do at least 5 different takes just for the drum solo.

The soundtrack album did well in the US peaked at Number 8 on the Billboard album chart and went Platinum whilst it peaked at a disappointing Number 26 on the UK charts. It is the soundtrack album to The Who biopic The Kids Are Alright.
