The Dogfather was created by Hawley Pratt and Friz Freleng. The shorts were produced by DFE films, released through theaters by United Artists and ran from 1974 to 1976. 17 shorts were produced.
The series was basically a parody of the movie, The Godfather but with canines as part of the Italian organized crime syndicate. It consists of the Dogfather (voiced by Bob Holt) and his henchmen Pug and Louie (both voiced by Daws Butler). The cartoons were shown on the show "The Pink Panther and Friends"

19 years later in 1993, a new version of the cartoon produced as a segment for The Pink Panther aired with Joe Piscopo as the voice of Dogfather while Pug and Louie are voiced by Brian George and Jess Harnell. In 'The Pink Panther's Passport to Peril', the name of the main villain is the Dogfather.
