[edit] History

The school was founded in 1930 by Commander William F. Bullis as a preparatory school for the United States Naval Academy. Its first location in Washington D.C. was moved to suburban Silver Spring, Maryland, in 1934, then to Potomac, Maryland, in the 1960s. In 1980, the school changed from an all boys institution to being co-ed. Since its founding, it has evolved into a ten-year college preparatory program serving grades 3 through 12.

The Lower School enrolls 85 students in grades 3, 4, and 5. The Middle school enrolls 165 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. There are about 100 students in each grade in the Upper School. The majority of Bullis' students come from Maryland, The District of Columbia, and Northern Virginia. For the 2009-2910 school year, approximately 29% are minority students and 3.5% hold international citizenship. Of the total enrollment of 630 students, 45% are girls and 55% are boys. [1]
