[edit] Project Link is broken
{{editprotected}}
Please fix the Project Link, it links to the article Japan instead of WP:WikiProject Japan. Deleting the parameter "PROJECT_LINK" should do it. (This error is evident when the banner is nested in WPBS. 76.66.193.69 (talk) 06:53, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
- Fixed. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:46, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Redirect class
A few days ago Category:Redirect-Class Japan-related articles was deleted at the same time that Redirect-Class was dropped by default from {{WPBM}}, presumably because it was apparent that this project was not using this class. However I believe a bot is going round and tagging redirects ([1] for example). This is just to let you know that if you would like to use Redirect-Class you will need a custom class mask. Please ask if you need help with this. If you don't care about it, then they will stay classified as NA-Class. Regards, — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:40, 9 April 2009 (UTC)
- The class has now been resurrected. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 14:20, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
-
- So WPBM now supports it again? ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 15:10, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- No, but a custom class mask has now been set up on your banner. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:10, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Implementation of photo needed by prefecture
On the sandbox version I've put a possible implementation of what you're trying to do. If you specify the prefecture using the parameter pref-photo, it should put it into the right category. For example
{{WikiProject Japan/sandbox|pref-photo=Aichi}} produces
 | This article is within the scope of the WikiProject Japan, a collaborative effort to improve the coverage of Japan-related articles on Wikipedia. I'm sure you can mess around with this to achieve what you want. Feel free to ask me to check your code before implementing on the live version. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:15, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- How do you make it able to handle multiple prefectures? There are some instances where something may be in multiple prefectures (such as a mountain range or national park). ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:17, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- You can't. I guess this would be a fairly rare occurence? You could implement a pref-photo-2 parameter on exactly the same lines to allow for a second location. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:18, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

- It's uncommon, but not really rare. There is also the default for items which aren't necessarily in a specific location (say a specific model of car, for example). Those would go in Category:Wikipedia requested photographs in Japan, so we would need a way to do that. Would adding another note section work, or is there a shorter way by modifying the code to accommodate that? I really appreciate your help with this. :) ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- It might be simplest to have another note with a general photo parameter for this general category. By the way, imageneeded is a more common parameter name. You might like to think about which names make more sense. Anyway I'm off now and will be back later. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:53, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
I've just added the special code for Tokyo and Hokkaido. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:23, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks! ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 09:31, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
More generally, the standalone Template:Reqphoto is, I believe, set up to tackle all of these situations. Is there any advantage of having it all in the project banner? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 09:55, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- It's too generic for this, so we created {{ReqphotoinJapan}} to handle it, but it would be nice to have it all in the project banner. It just makes it easier to have it consolidated. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 18:24, 21 April 2009 (UTC)
- I've added pref-photo-2 for a second prefecture, and photo for the general photo needed. I've also added the necessary code for the nested taskforced, which was missing from the banner. Is there anything else you need? — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 23:00, 21 April 2009 (UTC)

- I don't quite understand why {{reqphoto}} is too generic for this? It would allow an editor to put an article into the proper categories for several prefectures, and also into appropriate subject-oriented categories (e.g. photographs of architecture, of birds, of people, of mountains, etc). I prefer not to use customized photo parameters for different WikiProject templates, because it makes automated analysis more difficult, but I hope this works for WP Japan :-) Tim Pierce (talk) 21:53, 22 April 2009 (UTC)
- When the {{ReqphotoinJapan}} and {{ReqphotopersoninJapan}} were created, that template couldn't handle all instances of the requests, so the two mentioned templates were created. Now they are being merged into this template. As they will be categorized, I don't see how automated analysis will be more difficult as counting the articles being categorized will be easy. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 00:30, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
- PhotoCatBot periodically crawls through articles that have {{reqphoto}} templates and adds appropriate categories to the template based on which wikiproject it's in. Each wikiproject that implements its own customized photo parameters means that I have to add a different customized rule to the bot, and means that it can't take advantage of the other parameters that {{reqphoto}} does support.
