[edit] Hook 'em Horns?Does this really belong? As an aggie I might be a bit biased, but it seems like this is a bit esoteric to make this template. It isn't so unique among celebratory gestures. Notthe9 07:12, 20 June 2007 (UTC) [edit] The thing the British do with the two fingers..Heh, being an ugly American, I'm afraid I don't even know what to call it.. but you know what I mean. Two fingers up, with the palm facing the giver (knuckles facing the receiver). Seems at least as notable as the Shocker, but it's not in this template. Think it ought to be, perhaps? --Jaysweet 18:29, 13 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] handwavingShould Handwaving perhaps be included? Despite its name, the article focusses on the argument technique called "handwaving", but there is a short section which describes the actual gesture. I added Handwaving to the category Gestures, but I'm not sure if it should be included in this template... Herostratus (talk) 17:11, 10 January 2008 (UTC) [edit] A few commentsAs someone pointed out, the current use of Image:The Thumbs-up position.jpg on the template may not be ideal, because the gesture is considered highly obscene in some cultures (something akin to the the finger, perhaps). The picture is wonderful and definitely appropriate for the Thumbs up article, but we should probably try to find something more culturally neutral. I was wondering about the "I love you" gesture, but the best candidate I've yet found (Image:I love you-gesture.JPG) may not highlight the specific subject well enough to be clear what we're referring to. Should we remove the image, pending a replacement? Along similar lines, I notice thumbs up is listed as a "friendly" gesture. Not to impugn the motives of the involved editors, but perhaps it would be less ethnocentric if we found another means of categorization? Say, by part(s) of the body involved in the gesture? This suggestion is less urgent than the image issue, though. Any comment? – Luna Santin (talk) 06:36, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Hat tip articleEveryone, with good intentions, I added the gesture Hat tip to the Gestures template box categorized under "friendly gestures." In my POV, that simply seemed to be the best category of gesture available. Thank you for your attention. Take care. ProfessorPaul (talk) 18:45, 28 June 2008 (UTC) [edit] Indian head bobbleIn Indian cultures there is a fairly universal sign of acknowledgment or affirmation that is a slight to exaggerated wobble of the head back and forth. Is there an article on this? Is it known by any other name? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ce1984 (talk • contribs) 09:02, 5 December 2008 (UTC) |
