This template is too big and noisy IMHO. I particularly don't care for the template "edit" and "refresh" links: if someone wants to edit the template, they can figure out how, and a "refresh" link is basically admitting to the fact that the template is going to be constantly changing, which is not the way to design templates.
I don't think we need to incorporate every article on French overseas (i.e. non-metropolitan) colonies here. Have one template, perhaps, for the French colonial Empire (i.e. pre-1960s) and one for present overseas territories. So St. Pierre et Miquelon would have two templates on it. --Saforrest 13:44, 5 July 2006 (UTC)

- This is a terrible template. It is entirely too big to serve any purpose! Someone should create individual templates for Africa, Oceania, Americas etc and bring this down to just 1960 French territories--Thomas.macmillan 02:39, 26 January 2007 (UTC)

- When transcluded, all templates within are collapsed, unlike its appearance on its own page. In other words, when in situ, the user can select how many of these inner templates are hidden or shown.
- Perhaps you might prefer the format adopted for {{Portuguese overseas empire}} and {{Territories of the British Empire}}...?
- Otherwise, if you examine this template's code, you'll see that something along the lines you suggest – i.e. those "inner templates" – are the units used to build it. Regards, David Kernow (talk) 03:05, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
