[edit] Other "Xfire" name usesGoogle gives me a few more "Xfire" websites than just the IM client and the Web Application Management tool from Xaffire, Inc. mentioned at the top. Is it needed to add more disambiguation links, or even to create a whole disambiguation page? If not, is the Xaffire link needed, as that doesn't seem "fair" to the other Xfire websites/products/whatnot. Retodon8 01:44, 17 December 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Delete "Xfire (computer game)" redirectWhy does it have this redirect "Xfire (computer game)", it's not a computer game, that's very far from what xfire is, so this should be changed.--Dp462090 22:29, 17 March 2006 (UTC)
[edit] RevenueHow does something like this make money for Viacom?
[edit] Windows 98 SupportI have herd that Xfire has dropped support for Windows 98? Does anyone know for sure, if so the infobox would need to be updated. Credema 06:09, 23 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Mac SupportThere is a Mac client called Xblaze. Should Xfire still be in the "Windows-only intstant messengers" category? --Njk 23:03, 28 July 2006 (UTC) I added a "[citation needed]" tag to the statement at the bottom of the Technology section where it's stated that the developers of Xfire will work on a Mac version once the PC version is "perfected." First of all, what does perfected even mean in this context? Xfire is being (and must be) constantly updated to keep up with new games that are coming out. It will never be "perfected." Second, I could be imaging this, but I seem to recall one of the Xfire team members publicly stating that they had no intention to create a Mac version of Xfire due to the shortage of games available for the Mac. So if someone could provide a citation for that comment, it would be very helpful. Otherwise I suggest it should probably be removed. Tidalflame 00:25, 5 September 2007 (UTC) [edit] More To AddYou can download files through Xfire. Xfire has Events and prices. Xfire has a contest where you should guess from wich game a specific screenshot is from. Xfire has a newsletter. Xfire has an in-game chatting support (or was that added?) Xfire is able to remember visited servers, and can add servers to favorites. Xfire.com stores users favorite servers. You can send files through Xfire You can have chatrooms in Xfire. [edit] PS3 version?Apparently there are talks of Xfire being used in Untold Legends:Dark kingdom on PS3, should this be mentioned? http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153547 Mr toasty 02:58, 14 September 2006 (UTC) [edit] Adding information in wrong placesPlease stop adding information to the article that does not belong in certain sections. Particularly, the information stated about XBlaze. XBlaze does not have to do with the technology of how Xfire works. Please file it under the User Extensions catagory. Also, please take note that the article is about Xfire's client and protocol. [edit] Xfire Distributed With D-Link's RoutersWould the info mentioned in "Xfire Distributed With D-Link's Routers" be relevant enough to mention? Retodon8 13:10, 20 October 2006 (UTC) xfire is included with other software/hardware as well, it came on the CD to my video card...i think its enough to at least mention. [edit] pronunciationThe correct pronuntiation of Xfire is ex- fire, as shown on X-fire help home page(at top of the page) --Robin63 21:18, 10 February 2007 (UTC) [edit] Info Box (MTV)At the bottom of the box is information such as stuff about Viacom, ect. However there is a whole thing about MTV. Listings of different MTV channels and so on. I have no idea what this is doing on the X-fire page, and I suspect it is spam. Howver I wanted to make sure there wasn't a good reason for having it there, (Although I can't see why there would be) before delting that part, just incase someone was not spamming, I will probably delete this part in a few days, unless anyone has anything to say about it? --Robin63 01:32, 12 February 2007 (UTC) [edit] Xfire SDK[edit] game compatibilitymake sure that when you edit this article for features supported in-game, you use correct examples, i.e. World of Warcraft is not supported by the instant joining feature. Kyle 15:03, 1 March 2007 (UTC) [edit] Lack of Development NPOV"Useless Junk"? To be honest Xfire is one of the most highly developed programs I know of with frequent updates, this seems to have been written in anger at the introduction of the /me command. The link has nothing to do with this command and is actually based on the changing of names: "Nickname changes are now shown to your friends immediately (some of you have waited two years for this feature, so enjoy it!).". Propose to delete this section, if there's no reasonable objection within the next few days I'll make sure of it. MattieTK 20:50, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
"useless junk" refers to things that are not needed, such as the /me implementation, i see no need for it, after all, it is meant for IRC but we arent here to tell them what to put in a program, but the people that do support the program are being let down. The reference to the release notes was pointing out that the xfire developers themselves admit that they do take a rather long time to get features supported (2 years is a very long time from the first time a feature request was asked for and it really wasn't a necessary feature in relation to xfire's notable features, furthermore encouraging opinions on lack of development) If you guys/girls can not see our (the people who are eagerly waiting for usefull support and features) point of view, then you have no choice to delete it, I hope this is not the case. Please try to keep an open mind about this. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.31.30.11 (talk • contribs) 3:08 pm GMT-8 PST -metroed user-
It should still be noted that they are not putting full effort into development. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.0.187.228 (talk • contribs)
i have to say adding something that doesn't benefit the program is considered useless in my book—Preceding unsigned comment added by Casemods (talk • contribs) [edit] Xfire EventsWhoever created this section needs to learn grammar. Can someone please expand on this section because one sentence is useless. [edit] Info about Pinkslip (was in Support section)Original text:
Feel free to add it back to the article, ONLY, if you find a relevant section to place it in. In my opinion, it does not need to be added back. I removed this because the sentence is not cited, nor is it true. (For one, I know this, as I am a developer of Xblaze and I run Xfire Plus, so I know a damn bit about Xfire). Xblaze can communicate with any client on the Xfire network, not just "Mac's". In addition, multiple Macs is not spelled "Mac's". I don't know why you put Xfire in triple quotes, as you mean to say the Xfire Client. However, your statement is false again, because it does have features as the original Xfire client. Chat, detecting games, and displaying friend's games and statuses, are all considered "features", and are all supported by Xblaze. You said "does not have any", which is the false statement, and isn't cited anyways. This is why I removed your edit. I don't feel that it is required to have a sentence, as if you look at the section the item is in, and the context, it is a given that it does not have the complete features as the original Xfire Client. In which case, you should add that sentence to all of the items in the list there. DO NOT revert the page after I remove it again, unless you would like me to contact an Administrator. Instead, please discuss here what you feel is neccesary to put in place, or just drop the case as it should be. [edit] Performance issuesI seem to recall a couple years ago there was a big blow up about performance issues with xfire. Some games were really suffering under it. I'm not sure if any reliable sources picked up on it or not, searching is slow as a lot of different things use the xfire name. This article is really light on history and could use some more information about what's happened to the company since inception (but notable events, not trivial things like their april fools jokes).--Crossmr (talk) 13:57, 12 September 2008 (UTC) Define how much of big blow up. I've been using Xfire for years and I don't really recall having severe performance issues with most of the games I've run with Xfire on. The only exception to this rule seems to be Battlefield 2 but I doubt it had anything to do with Xfire more than it had to do with the fact that Bf2 was a major resource hog. 2 gig's of ram wasn't really the norm until early 2006 I believe.
