I removed the following:

• "The Lambeth Walk" has the distinction of being the only popular song to be the subject of a headline in The Times in October 1938: "While dictators rage and statesmen talk, all Europe dances - to The Lambeth Walk."

I couldn't find this NYT article - I searched for "Lambeth Walk" in the title, as well as "rage and statesmen" and "all Europe dances" in full text. The following eight articles with "Lambeth Walk" in the title do however exist:

At least one reason you couldn't find it is you were looking in the wrong newspaper. The Times is the Times of London, not the New York Times. - Nunh-huh 21:16, 30 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lambeth Walk

There is actualy a part of Lambeth called "Lambeth Walk" in the north of the London Borough of Lambeth (in or near the effra delta) —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Alec - U.K. (talk • contribs) .

I removed the claim of 'unremarkable' for The Walk (as it is known locally). The fact that Lambeth Walk was well-known as an archetypal working class street market meant that the musical's references were not lost on the theatre-going public - even if they hailed from Mayfair. In spite of The Walk having been blighted by several urban renewal projects over the years there are still a small remnant street market and vestiges of its association with the musical (some shabby murals in the market square). Unfortunately, there's not enough of the old Walk to satisfy the occasional lost tourist with the song stuck in his or her head. Fanx 12:22, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
