[edit] Structure
While the article is still in the process of being cleaned up from the merge, I would be interested to see how we can structure this list of characters. As of current, it contains overlapping information and is far too cluttered to be readable. I think in general we need to trim a lot of information, especially non-notable specific moments that are written out as a script. --Scottie_theNerd 02:08, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- I agree. There is too much detail about each character that, combined, makes the individual sections and the article overall cluttered. So far I have been proceeding with a default organisation scheme: alphabetically by last name. Organising the characters by the order of their apperance in the video game series is an alternative option. The issue of structure is something that will have to be addressed, but I am postponing it pending some further cleanup and a shorter, more manageable list. Perhaps you could offer a suggestion on how to structure the list? -- Black Falcon 20:48, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- I think Characters of Final Fantasy VIII is a good template to follow. Articles regarding in-universe characters should be more related to real life (eg. through design and development phases) rather than a collection of character trivia. We can use the game and manual as sources for character backgrounds.
-
- In terms of structure, I think they should be divided based on which game they initially appear in. A brief summary of their history and key events they go through in the game is sufficient. Hopefully we can get character portraits as well. --Scottie_theNerd 03:13, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "Miscellaneous" sections
During my cleanup of each individual character section, I am creating subsections titled "Miscellaneous" that contain various pieces of information about each character. After the cleanup is completed and sources are found for the content, some of this information should be reincorporated into the text, whereas the rest can be safely deleted as trivial detail. However, I believe such a decision should be postponed until after cleanup of the article is completed. -- Black Falcon 23:03, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
- So far, the Misc. sections you have put up contain little more than what weapons they use in each game, which is of no importance. We can probably do away with them. --Scottie_theNerd 03:15, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
-
- Actually, so far I've only done the cleanup of the first character on the list. But I agree with the general principle. The miscellaneous sections will contain information which does not fit into the main text and should probably be deleted. I just though it might be prudent to leave them until a general rewrite of all sections is done, at which time they will mostly (or entirely) be deleted with only the most relevant points being incorporated into the text. -- Black Falcon 05:59, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
hey people, ive been cleaning up this page and i had to delete some content from it wich is irrelevant, why has it been changed back? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 217.225.203.149 (talk • contribs).
- When removing large sections of text, it is generally a good idea to state why you are doing so in your edit summary. I think that was why Lucasbfr reverted you. I reverted you because your edit replaced formatted (i.e., linked) and (admittedly weakly) sourced content with unformatted and unsoured content (for instance, your edit removed the blue-grey infoboxes and also information about who voices the characters). You are, of course, welcome to trim the article of excess content (and there is a lot of it), but please try to do so with formatted text and keeping in mind that the article should not read as a game guide and should not be written solely from an in-universe perspective. That said, I recognise that the article is currently not in good shape and requires a general rewrite. See, for instance, this article to get an idea of what it should ideally look like. [edit] Working on the page
why are the changes being reversed all the time?
i explained wht im doing:
im getting rid of repetitive information im getting rid of useless information im cleaning it up overall im removing the useless boxes im removing content that isnt confirmed im going to order the names alphabetically
so where is the problem? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.225.210.111 (talk)
- I'm not the one reverting your changes, but I'm guessing the point of dispute would be your unexplained removal of the infoboxes. Since the characters in BiA are all military personnel, using an existing military infobox summarises the key details of a character far better than a paragraph. --Scottie_theNerd 23:09, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
-
- I removed the infoboxes because they contain useless information (allegiance, branch), and instead put the useful information in an easy-to-read way, i also think that the place of the infobox can be used better off to add a picture (wich im going to do when ive taken all the screenshots) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.225.210.111 (talk)

-
- Perhaps pictures with an infobox would be useful. I'm not sure how the infoboxes are useless, and they are the clearest way to communicate basic details. If you could clarify, I'm sure a consensus can easily be reached. --Scottie_theNerd 04:07, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

- Thought about the infoboxes and am going to implement them as soon as i have time, going to add screens asap —Preceding unsigned comment added by 217.225.199.73 (talk)

- We need to add arcticles on Campbell and Marsh. We have almost everyone else. Darthan the destroyer (talk) 22:08, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

- I just added Campbell in. I would like to see some information corrected as I am trying to avoid running Earned in Blood on my PC due to the StarForce program, and it's been almost half a year since I played it so some of my info is a bit faulty. 64.85.234.166 (talk) 09:11, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] George Risner
Why isn't there any info about George Risner? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.233.193.234 (talk) 01:06, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
Happy? I made a segment for George. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.82.196.164 (talk) 17:23, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Real vs Fictonal
Anyone else think it would be a good idea for this page to make a clear distinction between those characters that are real people(eg Robert Cole) and those that are fictional characters (eg Matt Baker)? I think this becomes even more confusing when you look at the infoboxes and characters are shown as still "living". --93.96.19.132 (talk) 10:30, 22 May 2009 (UTC)
They are based on true people but Cole and Sink were real people. Most were people just with different names.68.82.196.164 (talk) 20:13, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
I saw Muzza in Purple Heart Lane at the end of it. I thought he was killed in the stick on D Day. He was by the Belgium gate at the very end right before Desola is killed.
[edit] Leggett
The " Death pistol" that Leggett had looked different in Road to Hill 30 than it did in Hell's Highway. It looked like an ordinary pistol. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.82.196.164 (talk) 17:06, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Sgt. Lewis
Lewis was in Purple Heart Lane near the end of it. He gave the order as if he was outranking us. He was the same rank as Baker.68.82.196.164 (talk) 20:11, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] List of men who died under Baker
The men who died were, in order, Muzza, Risner, Garnett, Allen, Rivas, Desola, Obi, Leggett, LaRoache(Franky) and Hartsosk even though he didn't die. 68.82.196.164 (talk) 15:46, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
[edit] Nightmare
This page is a nightmare of grammar and spelling. Someone with some free time on their hands should probably go through and clean this up.
There also seems to be a LOT of irrelevant information. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.105.214.5 (talk) 13:36, 15 August 2009 (UTC) I clean some of it up but i only got rid of the stuff that was REALLY stupid. 68.82.196.164 (talk) 19:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
Where did you people get the dates when the characters die in 1945? I believe that in the upcoming Battle of the Bulge sequel some of them may die, but how can one know now? Zanovich section says he died in 1945 but also says he is living. 201.95.135.71 (talk) 02:04, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
