I'm terrible at grammar otherwise I'd fix it myself, but that entire paragraph is one sentence. I'm notorious for using run on sentences/paragraphs myself, so I'm not sure the best way to go about fixing it. The article claims that Ice Cube was born and raised in South Central but also that he attended Taft High School, which is in Woodland Hills -- pretty far away from South L.A. If that is true, how did he end up there and what were the circumstances of the move? I wonder how fellow Taft alums like Lisa Kudrow and Wilmer Valderrama managed to avoid the "gangsta" lifestyle? In the lyrics to his new song Race Card, which promotes and is the theme song to his show Black and White due out in March, he says that he was arrested, and just like martha stewart, he pled innocent. Does anyone know when he was arrested, and what the charges were? his arrest record is not mentioned in the bio.. Can someone please clear up what ihs parents did at UCLA. On some sites, people say they were UCLA professors. On npr i think he talked and said they were custodians, like working with the lawns and stuff. ~~ sp0 9/11/2006 They weren't professors, that I'm sure of. They were simply staff members of UCLA. That could mean anything--the mom may have been an admin assistant and the dad a custodian, for all we know. It's been brought up on and off in various media, so the controversial racial aspects of his music should probably be at least mentioned. Most notorious is probably the threat of violence against ethnic-Korean shopkeepers in "Black Korea", although there are dozens of threats of violence against white people that are cited on and off as well. --Delirium 08:29, August 28, 2005 (UTC)

I would say only if you have a source. Ice T has often mentioned Iceberg Slim in interviews and songs but I've never heard Slim mentioned in context with Cube.

Cube never officially converted to the Nation. He basically just tagged along. Very non-NPOV. Repairing some sentances. i.e. "the album was a masterpiece of old school rap" "his lyrics were groundbreaking".

The way to usually fix that is: "The album is considered a masterpiece by many critics and fans"; "his lyrics are considered by many hip-hop historians to be groundbreaking" (not in these exact words, something like that). In these cases, it's best to have quotes from magazines, hip-hop sources---etc.---which show that a number of critics/hip-hop historians have said things like that. Anyway, there will have to be some mention of the fact that his early work is indeed widely regarded as groundbreaking and that he produced classics and even what some critics consider masterpieces in the genre. I already changed it, but someone posted that he is from "Crenshaw, California". Crenshaw is NOT a city...there is something called the "Crenshaw District" which lies for a mile or so right off of Crenshaw Boulevard, which is a major street in Los Angeles. But it is not a city, and no one ever claims to be from "Crenshaw".

Hi guys, I've removed the magazine cover which is currently being used as the illustrative image. Since Ice Cube is still alive, still performing, and it shouldn't be too hard to get a free image of him, the use of this magazine cover can, in no way, be fair use. It's actually a textbook example of non-fair use - don't use magazine covers unless they're really significant, say, Demi Moore posing naked while pregnant in Vanity Fair, or maybe Kanye West as Jesus on the cover of Rolling Stone. Please don't think I'm just talking and not doing anything! :) I've left notes to a bunch of flickr users asking them if they'll consider licensing their images under a free license. Hopefully they'll consider helping out - it's pretty cool to have your picture on Wikipedia, where thousands of people can see it, I think. Yes, the low res bit is good :) However, the fact remains that it is unsourced - meaning we can't verify its copyright status - and that ideally we shouldn't use a copyrighted image for the article of a living person at all. Ice Cube obviously converted to Islam at some point in his career. Wikipedia needs information on this, so if anyone knows any information/sources that has anything to do with this, please help by adding it to the page. Actually this article does mention all those things, if you took the time to actually read the whole thing. And based on his lyrics you are calling him 'human filth'? His lyrics are typical of the emotion felt and the hatred against the oppression of African Americans, and, to an extent Muslims, felt all across the United States of America. They are controversial; just a passion on the expression of free speech, however, bordering on being offensive. I think he did take it too far at times, though. Sure, there was widespread racism/oppression but lots of people much more oppressed than Ice Cube made positive art/statements at the time he was writing stuff like "Cave Bitch" and "Horny Lil' Devil", etc. I'm actually a fan of his, but I'll admit some of his his early stuff pretty much crosses a line beyond simply reacting to the society around him.

I personally think his most offensive line was on Lethal Injection where he says "I'm killing more crackers than Bosnia-Herzegovina..." Pretty bad taste to reference a war zone like that, making light of the deaths of thousands of people on the other side of the planet who had literally nothing to do with the "crackers" he was angry with. But, yeah, it's already mentioned in the article that his lyrics caused controversy, I just think people are sometimes too quick to defend everything he's ever put on record, just because of his ethnicity. [edit] Converted to Islam vs. Reverted?

I understand that Islam states that blacks are born into Islam automatically, so later in life when they embrace the religion, they are considered to have "reverted to Islam."

This is not encyclopedic, however, to use the term. A religion's belief is not necessarily fact, and we deal in facts here. Convert is the proper term to use, unless a reference is provided that a person once embraced the religion, fell away or converted to another belief structure, then came back to the original religion.

I see it as analogous to Mormonism. The Latter-day Saints believe that living members "perform ordinances" on behalf of the deceased, thereby converting the deceased person to the Mormon religion. They are totally committed to this idea, and believe it to be the truth implicitly. This "conversion" has been performed for all the Founding Fathers of the United States, among others. However, no one would think of putting a line in George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, or Thomas Jefferson's Wiki articles stating that they converted to the Latter-day Saints after their death. It's simply not factual.

Let's stay with "convert." It fits the facts.

Ice Cube actually had a record out prior to CIA's "My Posse." He and a rapper named Kid Disatser did a song under a group named the "Stereo Crew." The song was titled "She's a Scab."
