There's also a boundary between Guadeloupe and the Netherlands Antilles on Sint Maarten/Saint-Martin. — Instantnood 14:28, Mar 16, 2005 (UTC)

- Guadeloupe no longer has a boundary - St Martin was split from Guadeloupe and isn't part of France proper any more. Bazonka (talk) 15:20, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

- Guadeloupe is part of France in the same way that Paris is part of France - it's like Hawaii being part of the USA. (That's what I meant by France proper.) On the other hand, St Martin belongs to France, but is not part of it - like Puerto Rico belonging to the USA, or the Falkland Islands belonging to UK. Bazonka (talk) 09:57, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
- Saint-Martin is a COM, and as such is considered as an internal division of France. If you don't consider Saint-Martin as a part of France and want to remove it from the article, you will have to remove the other COMs from the article, you can try this, but I bet the consensus will be against this move. Comparing French administrative subdivisions, with UK or US subdivisions or overseas possessions is probably not the right way, like you can't compare counties in the UK and States in the US as these are clearly not equivalent. - No that's a French perspective, it is good to mention the nickname but after all it is a French nickname and hexagon is spelled without an e at the end in English and it is the English Wikipedia. Blastwizard 07:28, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Inadequate map
The map on the head of the page is defintely not adequate. I mean, big cities like Montpellier or Rennes are not on the map even though very small cities like Cherbourg or Limoges are on it. Is it possible to change this map? Thank you.

- Yes (or maybe even the South Pole), but Kerguelen is part of an overseas territory - it belongs to France, but is not part of it. Reunion, on the other hand, is an overseas department, and so is actually part of France. (This page only shows the extremes of France proper.)Bazonka (talk) 15:34, 9 December 2007 (UTC)
[edit] need a few more clearer distinctions for Metropolitan/whole of France
This geography article is well made and is mostly very clear in whether it is talking about Metropolitan France, Overseas departments/territories or both.
However for "Climate" it appears that only the European part of France is (briefly) described. Couldn't there also be a bit more info about French Guiana, Réunion, etc?
More importantly, it would be useful to know whether "natural resources" covers only Metropolitan France, France + the overseas departments, or France + all of its overseas possessions. I say this because I believe that French Polynesia and New Caledonia are very rich in minerals: are they included in this section?Jarby (talk) 14:52, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
