Brazoria was named by Stephen F. Austin, who wrote that he would call the place "Brassoria, for I know of no other place like it in the world." He did get this derivation from the Brazos River, named by the Spanish (Brazos de los Dios -- the Arms of God), that runs through the county and by the city of Brazoria. The mouth of the Brazos River meets the Gulf of Mexico in this county of the State of Texas, USA.
