I agree wtih what that reviewer said. Bland crap like BEP is killing music.

If you don't like it, don't listen to it. No one is forcing you too. Some people do like the BEP, and saying that the BEP are bland is just foolish. They're a dedicated group with great producers, and they've got connections with some of the most important people in Hip Hop, like Jazzy Jeff and DJ Premiere. You'd probably say the same thing about any other Hip Hop group, though, so it's pointless to argue.

Didn't the group change the lyrics from "let's get retarded" too let's get it started" because it was so ignorant and offensive? If so, i think wiki should mention it

Jack Johnson appears on the new album, "Monkey Business". Jack performs in the song Get Gone.

Don't know how to include this from a neutral perspective, but it bears mentioning that BEP is a poster case for embracing a popular sound/image over interesting music. They've proven to be quite talented in past albums, but each seems to be more "dumbed down" than the last, with catch phrases rather than meaningful lyrics and a host of high-selling, high-image, but less-talented contributors.

I dunno... I've always thought of them as less concerned with the lyrics than the instrumental elements. I've always thought their rhyme and meter has been pretty forced, as far back as "Joints and Jams"; Will I Am rhymes "blue" and "do", and "playin'" and "demonstration"... I personally think it should be noted the major differences between Bridging the Gap & Elephunk, and the fact the once positive & uplifiting messages of BEP (pre-Fergie) were completely lost & traded for (as the poster above said) "a popular sound/image," although I'm not sure it's possible to mention this without sounding opinionated. Yes, I agree. Their albums used to have meaning and were very clever and the music was very well arranged. But now we have no-brainer singles like, "My Humps" and "Let's Get Retarded". A total shift in content and quality. Perhaps to appeal to the general public?

What's this?? A bland copy paste of what one reviewer said on another site isn't enough to prove derogatory criticism towards the BEP. I did not post that comment here. While I dislike the editorial comment immediately following, I feel it is worth keeping the quoted statements in the article. I have read several reviews that have been entirely uncomplimentary to the Black Eyed Peas and I know many people have problems with their lyrics. I have moved the page to The Black Eyed Peas. This appears to be very definitely their current styling, even though they started as just Black Eyed Peas. All albums and singles since the release of Elephunk have displayed "The Black Eyed Peas", as does their website. The only current places I can see an absence of "The" in official blurb is when using the initialism "BEP" or in the actual URL of their site — but that's a common convention for URLs (eg www.guardian.co.uk, www.independent.co.uk).

I hope this is now pretty clear in the article itself, but I don't think it's worth dwelling on too much. --KJBracey 17:45, 23 December 2005 (UTC)

While the page is now called The Black Eyed Peas, everywhere in the article itself, including the first line of the introduction, the band is referred to as Black Eyed Peas. Either the page should be moved back, or appropriate thes added. It looks like someone's gone through and changed (almost) every reference to "The Black Eyed Peas" to "Black Eyed Peas", without much thought. If you check the history to see my version from December 2005, you'll see that I was making it quite clear that they started without the "The", and I had a small note on Elephunk that they gained "The" as well as Fergie. --KJBracey 07:07, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

The page said Pump It charted at #29 in the UK Singles Chart. Kinda hard considering it isn't released as a single here until 13th March!!

I added a little bit of info to the page devoted to Pump It - it debuted on the UK Downloads Chart this week at #26 (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/chart/downloads.shtml)

There are white supremacist bands that have a more positive overall message than the Black Eyed Peas. The objectification of women is especially disgusting because Stacy Ann "Fergie" Ferguson is the main voice behind it. A Google video search for BEP (and/or the word "slut") yields this. Are you suggesting text for the article? If so, what should the text say? "My Humps, a song by BEP, has been known to have inspired pre-teens to dance in a 'slutty' manner for home videos"? Please note the video underneath that one, in which the same group danced to a "Shakira" song with their shirts pulled up to bare their bellies. There's no accounting for pre-teens' behavior, and it's certainly not an actionable case against this band. It's a silly little song that's just as bad and just as harmless as most other stuff out there. I believe it would be under Sergio Mendes' discography, if anything, since if I'm not mistaken, the BEPs have only collaborated with him for Timeless, which was released under his name.

I think a separate discography page would be welcome, especially with all of the production work will.i.am has done over the years. I did include a sub-section in the main article for a regular album discography. While there were links on the bottom bar, some might say the top box and not think of scrolling down, so the discography lists their albums proper, not singles or EP's. The people that is posting on black eyed peas article don't care about this, the just care to talk about post fergie BEP. Look at the article there are not so much information about the 2 first albums, that main picture of the of the article was before a picture just one member and fergie on the picture. On bottom of the page see that the almost all the olders singles don't have a article. There are more things like this.

On August 28, "Kimpel" removed the entire section on Monkey Business, and covered the change with another vandalism. I'm too busy to attend to it, but if someone could manually add back in the section on Monkey Business, that would be great. This article is somewhat misleading. It leads the reader to believe that the Black Eyed Peas were unknown until Fergie joined the group and they released Elephunk. On the contrary -- before Fergie, they were a well regarded indie-skewing rap group. They didn't "break out" with Elephunk." Yes, their pop albums have been far more successful than any of they're purely rap albums, but, still, they were far, far from unknown before they changed their sound from rap to pop. In fact, before Elephunk, they were probably one of the most marketable and mainstream of the non-pop rap groups. Black Eyed Peas, A Tribe Called Quest, Jurrasic 5, The Roots, Black Star, etc. -- these are the groups that headlined and sold out mid-sized venues all across the country. The article distorts these facts by confining the group's pre-Fregie days to three sentences and then saying they "broke out" with Elephunk. This just isn't really true. When Fergie joined the group, they went from a popular, well regarded rap group to a Top 10 and even #1 pop group. In other words, they went from moderately successful to wildly successful. But they weren't struggling pre-Fergie. Nor were they unknown or without presence in the music scene. If you want to go back to the Black Eyed Peas "struggling artist" days, you need to go way, way back to just after they released their first album. But even then, indie rap had already become big; so the group was able to ride the coat tails of other acts (namely those on the Rawkus label). The Rawkus artists were truly the "struggling artists" of the genre. By the time "Behind the Front" came out, the genre had a fairly wide listenership and the group soon began playing substantial sized venues. ask123 (talk) 21:56, 22 September 2009 (UTC)

I haven't heard much criticism of the use of mazel tov and L'Chaim in the song other than from this one reviewer... it was my impression that culturally the phrases are in vogue. [edit] Other Uses of their Music

Shouldn't there be mention of all of the uses of the music in pop culture?
