Tainan County is located in southern Taiwan. The name "Tainan" means "Southern Taiwan". Currently administered as a county of Taiwan Province of the Republic of China, Tainan County will merge with Tainan City by the end of 2010 to form a single direct-controlled municipality.^[1]
