TV9 is a Malaysian private-owned television station which started transmission on April 22, 2006. This free-to-air television station is owned fully by Media Prima Berhad. It has formerly existed as Channel 9 from September 2003 to February 2005.
[edit] HistoryTV9 was established on September 9, 2003 as Channel 9, and it was disestablished on February 1, 2005. The station halted its transmission due to intense competition from other local free-to-air television stations and efforts to restructure its debts. On June 10, 2005, Malaysia's largest media corporation Media Prima Berhad announced its acquisition of 98% equity stake in Ch-9 Media Sdn Bhd[1], completing the company's ownership of all private free-to-air television stations in Malaysia. The new owner Media Prima Berhad later renamed the station to TV9[2] and relaunched it with the tagline "Dekat Di Hati" ("Close to the heart" in Malay) and content geared towards a Malay audience. Test transmissions resumed on April 1, 2006 by airing music videos mostly in Malay. [edit] Content and FeaturesDespite its focus mainly on Malay programming, the station also airs Chinese movies (with Malay subtitles) and Japanese series (dubbed in Malay) programmes on a weekly basis. English programmes such as Crocodile Hunter, Mutant X, Jeff Corwin Experience, Guinness World Records are also currently aired with Malay subtitles. During the 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. airtime block daily, the station airs children's shows such as Nickelodeon cartoons like Dora the Explorer, Blue's Clues and more which are all dubbed in Malay. TV9 airs its own news segment called Berita TV9 (literally: TV9 News) since January 1, 2007 at 8:00pm. For eight months since it started transmission, "Edisi 7" was broadcast, courtesy of ntv7. Liputan 9 (Coverage 9) was Channel 9's primetime news programme when it was in transmission, courtesy of Bernama. The first 30-minute version of Warta Perdana, courtesy of RTM1 was also aired for a few months before the transmission ended. The newsreaders of Berita TV9 include Zuhairah Mustafa Al-Husin, Abu Talib Husin, Syed Mohammad Khair Syed Hussein, Nurazura Abu Samah, Syafinaz Yunus, Amin Hayat Abdul Rahim and Nona Julia Hashim. They were chosen from over 5000 people who auditioned. The TV9 News is brought live from Studio C in Sri Pentas, Bandar Utama. The station's official transmission starts from 7 am till 1 am the next day. TV9 broadcasts under UHF (Ultra High) Frequency. In the Klang Valley, the UHF channel is 42, with a weaker transmission at 33 in certain parts of the Klang valley. TV9 is also available on local satellite provider Astro via Channel 119.
