[edit] Incidents and accidents
On June 15, 2006 a Boeing 737-301SF en route Liege (Belgium)-London Stansted (Flight TAY352) was redirected to East Midlands Airport due to weather conditions. On final approach the autopilot momentarily disengaged and re-engaged. The aircraft landed heavily to the left of the runway and the right main landing gear detached from the aircraft. The right wing tip and engine scraped on the ground then the aircraft became airborne again and made an emergency diversion to Birmingham. It landed with only the left landing gears, scraping on its nose and right engine. There were no injuries. [1] Video of landing. The cause of the crash was determined to be due to a poorly timed message from local air traffic control which the pilot misinterpreted, causing him to descend too quickly. The team of pilots were said by the airline to have managed the situation with skill once the error had been detected, however were dismissed from service with the company as a result of the incident.[2]
The TNT Airways fleet consists of the following aircraft:[3]
The airline is currently in talks with Airbus about a new-build A320 family freighter programme. It is planning a big order to replace its Boeing 737-300 fleet. The biggest potential blocking stone for the programme is the A320 production backlog[4][5].
