TFcon, previously TransformersCon is a Transformers fan convention held annually since 2002 in the greater Toronto area and is the 2nd largest annual gathering of Transformers fans in the world. The convention was created to give Canadians that were unable to travel to the American based BotCon a place to celebrate their love for the Transformers toy line. The 8th TransformersCon is scheduled for April 25 - 26, 2009 in Toronto, Canada with Hasbro scheduled to attend. This will be the first time Hasbro has attended the convention. Previous guests have included Movie Producer Don Murphy, voice actors Michael Bell, Michael McConnohie, Garry Chalk and David Kaye, in addition to Karl Hartman, Pete Sinclair and Rik Alvarez from the Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club, plus Transformers comic book professionals Pat Lee, James "Brad Mick" McDonough, Adam Patyk, Joe Ng, Alex Milne, Matt Moylan, and Rob Ruffalo.

[edit] Description

The programming includes things normally found at fan conventions such as Canada's largest dealer room full of Transformers toys and merchandise, celebrity guests such as voice actors from the series, artists and writers from the Transformers comic books, interactive panels, and exclusive merchandise along with many other events and contests geared towards the Transformers fan and collector. Among the most popular events during the convention are the trivia contest and the Transformers voice gala, where fans are given the opportunity to audition for roles in a live script reading along with the celebrity guest. A variant convention exclusive cover of Transformers #1 Vol. 3 published by Dreamwave Productions was produced for TransformersCon in March 2004. This was the only convention exclusive comic Dreamwave ever produced and was drawn by Don Figueroa. The exclusive cover later appeared at Cybercon Expo 2004, BotCon 2004 and the UK Transformer Convention, Auto Assembly.

[edit] TFcon history

The first TFcon was held in Hamilton, Ontario in 2002. Organized by Aaron Black and Colin Douglas, the convention had a modest 190 attendees. In 2003, TFcon got its first special guests in the form of Joe Ng and various members of the Dreamwave Production team. In 2004, it got its first convention exclusive in the form of a variant Convention Exclusive cover of Transformers #1 Vol. 3 published by Dreamwave Productions. In 2006, the first 3d merchandise exclusive was released, a "stealth" repaint of the Cyclonus Hard Hero Bust. In 2007, TFcon finally got its first transforming toy exclusive, an unlicensed downsized version of Dinobot Slag in his green G2 colors dubbed "Flamethrower" to avoid licensing problems with Hasbro. In its first 2 years the convention was moved around Ontario, but now finds a permanent annual home in Toronto, Ontario. As of 2008, TransformersCon is now officially called TFcon.
