Synergistetes is a phylum of bacteria.^[2]^[3]^[4] Members are Gram-negative,rod-shaped obligate anaerobes.^[4] Species within this phylum have been implicated in periodontal disease,^[5] gastrointestinal infections and soft tissue infections.^[3]
