Swope Park Rangers is the nickname given to the reserve team for the Kansas City Wizards of Major League Soccer. The name is in reference to the club's Training Grounds in South Eastern Kansas City, Missouri which is located with in the city's Swope Park. The nickname has been credited to "Come on you Swope Park Rangers (as ticket-sales guru Darren calls them)!" but Sam Pierron (the clubs customer relationships supervisor) has been huge in spreading the "unofficial" nickname. The name has now appeared in many online locations including the official blog of the Wizards as well as fan websites and message boards. The first public instances of this nickname came out during the teams very successful 2008 campaign. Swope Park Rangers is an obvious play on the English football club Queen's Park Rangers. |
