Sunderland Bridge

Sunderland Bridge is a village in County Durham, England, about 3 miles south of Durham City. It lies close to the confluence of the River Wear and River Browney. The village is situated next to a bridge of the same name. The bridge itself originally carried the Great North Road but when the road became the A1, a new bridge was needed as the existing bridge was not wide enough to cope with traffic and this was constructed to the east of the existing bridge. The road was later re-designated as the A167.
