Subscription television in Australia consists of the dominant provider Foxtel with cable & satellite TV in capital cities, and mostly the same channels are offered by Austar predominantly via satellite TV in regional areas. Optus provides Foxtel channels on its cable networks. Only the actual Foxtel service offered HD channels as of Feb 2009. Smaller competitors offer a subset of channels - with SelecTV offering satellite TV nationwide, and TransACT offering TV via its own VDSL network in Canberra and its Neighbourhood Cable network in parts of Victoria. Other small companies offer some channels via satellite, especially foreign services or free-to-air channels, and some channels are available over the Internet.
