Steve Alten (born August 21, 1959, Philadelphia) is an American science fiction author. He is best known for his Meg series, a set of novels around the fictitious survival of the Megalodon, a giant prehistoric shark. Alten holds a bachelor's degree from Pennsylvania State University, a master's in sports medicine from the University of Delaware and a doctorate in sports administration from Temple University. Alten is also the founder and director of Adopt-An-Author, a nationwide secondary school reading program with more than 9,000 registered teachers. • MEG was originally optioned by Disney's Hollywood Pictures in 1996. Two subpar scripts and changes at the studio reverted the rights back to Alten, who optioned the project to New Line Cinema in 2005. Though overwhelmingly supported by foreign and domestic sales, internal problems at New Line kept the project from being greenlit. Steve Alten reacquired the rights, adapted a new script, and optioned the project, along with The LOCH and GOLIATH to Apelles Entertainment. A major announcement is expected soon.

• DOMAIN was optioned by 11 11 films in July of 2009. Translated in Spanish as El Testamento Maya, the Mayan doomsday thriller was a huge best seller in Spain and Mexico, and is being published in more than a dozen countries. Actor Manolo Cardona will produce and star in the film as Michael Gabriel.

• In a one on one interview producer Belle Avery confirmed that a Loch film was also in development as well.^[4]
