[edit] Career

[edit] College and Amateur

Armstrong was raised in Cape Town, South Africa after the age of 4.[citation needed] He came to the United States to attend Butler University. In four seasons between 1996 and 1999 with Butler's side the Bulldogs, he made All-American, finished as the school's third all-time leading scorer with 43 goals and 102 points. He is ranked in the Horizon League's all-time top 10 for both goals and points.[1] From 1998 Armstrong also played for the Mid-Michigan Bucks in the USL Premier Development League.[2]

[edit] Professional

Armstrong played in Sweden with Västra Frölunda IF before moving to English First Division side Watford on a free transfer in October 2000. He made three appearances for the club, all as a substitute, before being released at the end of the 2000–01 season.[3]

He was selected in the second round - 13th overall - of the 2000 MLS SuperDraft by D.C. United.[citation needed] Armstrong was traded to Kansas City for Brandon Prideaux in 2002, and spent two years with the Wizards, appearing in regular season and playoff games each year.

Armstrong missed the 2004 Major League Soccer season while recovering from ACL surgery on his right knee.[citation needed] He joined the Columbus Crew in 2005. He signed with Charleston at the start of the 2006 season.
