This article is about a meteorologist on The Weather Channel. For the KYW-TV reporter, see Stephanie Abrams (reporter). Stephanie Abrams is an on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel, a 24 hour American cable television weather program.
[edit] Early lifeStephanie Abrams was born in Miami, Florida, on October 27, 1978[1]. Raised in Lake Clarke Shores and Wellington, Florida, Abrams attended Meadow Park Elementary in West Palm Beach and Forest Hill High School and graduated from Wellington High School.During her time in high school, she was a cheerleader. Abrams parents divorced when she was young and much of her time was spent with her father, Dr. Barry Abrams, an infectious disease specialist. She was sent to the United States Space Camp twice and vacationed in science-rich locations such as Yellowstone National Park.[2] She was also a member of the youth movement Young Judaea, having attended Camp Judaea in Hendersonville, North Carolina and the Machon In Israel summer program. [edit] EducationAbrams graduated with a BS in geography minoring in mathematics from the University of Florida, in Gainesville, graduating with honors and elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She was also a member of Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. Abrams' second degree was a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology from Florida State University, Tallahassee, Florida where she graduated cum laude. At Florida State, Abrams, like other meteorology students, practiced on-air forecasts on FSU Live, a student-run news and weather production on a Tallahassee cable channel. During her time at FSU, she worked as a teacher's assistant, teaching a class about meteorology.[3] Abrams is a member of both the National Weather Association and the American Meteorological Society (AMS) and was president of the North Florida chapter of the AMS from 2002-2003. She also holds the seal of approval from the AMS. [edit] CareerAbrams' first position was as a morning meteorologist at WTXL, the ABC affiliate in Tallahassee, Florida. In July 2003, Abrams began on-air work for The Weather Channel. On the Weather Channel, before she became a on camera meteorologist, she was just a reporter and fill-in from 2003-2006. Then in 2006, she became co-host of "Abrams and Bettes: Beyond the Forecast" and then went on to "Weather Center", also with co-host Mike Bettes. On July 20, 2009, she began co-hosting "Wake Up With Al" with NBC's Al Roker on weekday mornings from 6-7 a.m. ET, and then joins Mike Bettes and Jeff Morrow from 7-10 a.m. ET on "Your Weather Today".
