On 8 May 1953, the contract to build the new Marist High School was signed by the Rev. Edward McGrath and Archbishop Edward F. Hoban. The Marist Fathers also established then Blessed now St.Pius X Parish.

Archbishop Hoban donated 33 acres (130,000 m2) to build the new High School. On January 31, 1956, construction started on a $1.75 million dollar complex. The new Marist High School was named St. Peter Chanel, the name of the Marist Fathers' first saint. Peter Chanel was named a Saint in 1954, by Pope Pius XII.
