[edit] Faculty

Faculty members at St. John's are required to possess a Bachelor's Degree, have New York State Teacher Certification, and each is expected to continue on in the educational journey by participating in post-Master's work, doctoral studies, conferences and workshops.[citation needed] Sisters of St. Francis, Sisters of St. Dominic and lay women and men are also faculty members at St. John's. Many current teachers of SJB are alumni.[citation needed] The student to teacher ratio is approximately 13:1.[citation needed]

[edit] Uniform

All students must wear the official school uniform appropriate for season, grade year, and gender to school. School shoes can be purchased through White Cross and uniforms through Lobel's in Massapequa, NY. If a uniform is worn improperly, a uniform infraction or a detention will be issued. Skirts are worn by the female class body and must be worn at an appropriate length or mandatory detentions will be issued by the faculty. Also introduced during the 2007-2008 school year were identification cards. All students and faculty must wear their ID card with an official lanyard around their neck and the official Red ID cover every time they enter a building as a safety precaution. If a student forgets their ID cards three times, detention is issued.

[edit] School Layout and Building

The high school features five floors. The first three floors are the only areas where students are permitted and where all classes are held. The uppermost floors house over 20 nuns, who live and work at the school. St. John's also has a new and updated dance studio, large library, and a new student parking area. The school contains one gymnasium, one cafeteria, and a 3 million dollar auditorium, and approximately 10 restrooms.

[edit] Sister School

The sister school of St. John's is Holy Trinity Diocesan High School located in Hicksville, New York. Slightly more students attend SJB than Holy Trinity.

[edit] Cost

The school year tuition is approximately $7,000. Some academic scholarships are available.

[edit] Academics

The basic curriculum includes required courses in Religious Studies, English, Social Studies and Physical Education; Mathematics, Science, French Italian, or Spanish; Health, Art or Performing Arts and Computer Science. The three vocal groups perform at concerts twice a year, in December and in the spring. A dance concert is also given annually.
