St. George's College (Mussoorie), is one of the premier boarding schools of India. It embraces students from a plethora of communities and countries and is affiliated to the ICSE council. The school, an all-boys residential and non-residential institution, spreading over 400 acres of land, was founded in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers and entrusted to the Society of the Brothers of St. Patrick (Patrician Brothers of Ireland) in 1894. It was opened in a cottage known as Manor House; the name by which the Campus is still known.

[edit] Location

Towering over a lone mountain top, overlooking Barlowganj, is the 150 years old institution. It is located about 5 km away from the town of Mussoorie and is spread over a 400 acre scenic estate.

[edit] Origin

The school, primarily an all-boys residential mainstay, was instituted in 1853 by the Capuchin Fathers and entrusted to the Society of the Reverend Brothers of St. Patrick (Patrician Brothers of Ireland) in 1894.In 1948, St. Fidelis campus was amalgamated with St. George's College.

[edit] Student life

A typical day starts with a one hour study session followed by breakfast. The entire school assembles in front of the classrooms and says the Lord's prayer. After classes, there is a mandatory run around the nearby Fox Hill. This is followed by about two hours of sports time, after which the students have their dinner and have another study session - this time of two hours - followed by news-hour and finally bedtime.

Students get an "outing" day every month when they are permitted to go out into the town. The Jackie Memorial football tournament during the rains, and Sports Day in October are the highlights during the middle, and at end of the year, respectively.

[edit] Sports

Games are played seasonally and all possible games are accommodated to keep the students busy with something of their interest. The students have been extremely good sportsmen and dominate football in the whole of Mussoorie and Dehradoon. Some of the boys have been Olympians, national and state level footballers , cricketers and athletes.
