Title Card for Spooney Melodies

Spooney Melodies was a series of live action musical shorts produced Warner Brothers aimed to showcase popular tunes of the day.

Only five are believed to have been made in 1930 and 1931.[1] The only short known to have survived is entitled 1929's "Cryin' for the Carolines", and features a performance by Milton Charles, the "singing organist". The short is about six minutes long and features art deco style animations combined with film of the performer. As sound films were an innovation in 1930, this could conceivably be the earliest music video. All the other shorts are thought to be lost. This series was replaced with an animated series called Merrie Melodies in 1931, also produced by Leon Schlesinger.

Cryin' for the Carolines is featured on the features section of the Looney Tunes Golden Collection: Volume 6.
