Southwind is a World Class (formerly Division I) drum and bugle corps that competes in Drum Corps International. Southwind was founded in Montgomery, Alabama in November 1980 by local businessman and drum corps veteran, Michael Terry, at the request of a group of Robert E. Lee High School students including Bill Stiers, Kim Ballentine, Pierce Cowart, and John Johnson and is now based in Lexington, Kentucky. On October 15, 2007, it was announced that the corps would be inactive for the 2008 season.[1] On September 15, 2008, director Mike Loeffelholz announced the corps will remain inactive for the 2009 season.[2] However, on March 9, 2009, the Board of Directors voted to field a corps in 2010, marking Southwind's return. .[3]
