South River is a public high school in Edgewater, Maryland. It was built in 1978 and has 2060 students currently enrolled. It received a Blue Ribbon in education. Due to recent overcrowding in the Crofton, MD area, students are bused in from Crofton, in addition to Davidsonville, Mayo, and Edgewater. School instructors Chris Newman, Daniel Tasikas, and J Zivic are among the few to receive awards from The Karen Gaffney Foundation for community service and excellence in the Special Education Program₁. South River will be implementing a new STEM program in the fall of 2009. In June of 2009, it lost one of its students to gang related violence in Crofton. The class of 2009 graduated with over 8.5 million dollars in scholarships, and 5 senior students received Scholarships for Scholars from the Anne Arundel County Government.
