Sonic the Hedgehog has been the subject of many spin offs in printed media.
[edit] Comic booksSeveral comic books have been released, each establishing a different storyline about Sonic.
In the UK there was also a short-lived Sunday comic strip and a series of Christmas annuals. Whilst there were some slight connections (both projects occasionally featured the work of regular Sonic the Comic artist Richard Elson), the projects were largely separate from one another, with the Sunday comic and annuals preferring self-contained gag strips over Sonic the Comic's continuing plot lines and maturer stance. [edit] GamebooksA series of six Sonic Adventures gamebooks were published in the UK between 1993 and 1996 by Puffin under the Fantail label.
[edit] MangaSeveral Sonic the Hedgehog manga series have been published in Japan. In addition, Sonic fan-made dōjinshi made by a variety of artists (including Rikdo Koshi) have also been released.
[edit] Sonic the Hedgehog (1992)The 1992 Sonic the Hedgehog manga series was based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The series, published in Shogakukan's Shogaku Yonensei (literally "fourth-year student") was written by Kenji Terada and it was illustrated by Sango Morimoto (森本サンゴ Morimoto Sango)[citation needed]. The manga, which started in 1992, was about a hedgehog boy named Nicky Parlouzer who can turn into Sonic the Hedgehog. Along with Miles "Tails" Prower, Sonic fights Dr. Eggman. Nicky has several friends in the "real world", including little John, his girlfriend Amy (a prototype/first incarnation of Amy Rose), and Charmy (a prototype/first incarnation of Charmy Bee). Nicky also encounters a lizard bully named Anton Beruuka with his little brother, Matt, and their pet, Mad. Nicky's family at home includes his mother, Brenda, his father, Paulie, and his little sister, Anita. [edit] Dash & Spin; Super Fast Sonic!!Dash & Spin (Subtitled Chousoku Sonikku) is a 2-part published manga illustrated by Santa Harukaze. It was printed via the Japanese manga magazine Coro Coro Comics, who is famous for publishing many manga adaptations of video games (including adaptations of Super Mario Bros. and Rockman.EXE (MegaMan NT Warrior)). Dash & Spin was never published outside of Japan, nor in any language other than Japanese. Dash & Spin's volumes comprise of several short stories, including omake (extra) koma stories, published as an anthology. The stories are often very slapstick. Dash & Spin includes many Sonic the Hedgehog characters, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Miles "Tails" Prower, Knuckles the Echidna, Amy Rose and Dr. Eggman. Dash & Spin finished publishing Volume 2 in February 2005. [edit] Novels
James Wallis, Carl Sargent and Marc Gascoigne, under the collective pseudonym "Martin Adams", wrote four Sonic the Hedgehog novels based on the origin established in Stay Sonic. They were published in the UK by Virgin Publishing.
