Smuggler is a film, TV, commercial and music video production company founded in 2002 by Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody. Smuggler works with directors Jaron Albertin, Steve Ayson, Brian Beletic, Adam Berg, Jun Diaz, Filip Engstrom, David Frankham, The Guard Brothers, Neil Harris, Nacho Gayan, Randy Krallman, Ringan Ledwidge, Renny Maslow, Bennett Miller, PYSOP, Henry Alex Rubin, Guy Shelmerdine, Chris Smith, Stylewar, Jon Watts, and Ivan Zacharias. [edit] CommercialsAmongst the many commercials Smuggler has created are Pretty (advert) directed by Ivan Zacharias, starring Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova, which won two Gold Cannes Lions in 2007[2], and the Whopper Freakout Campaign directed by Henry Alex Rubin where a Burger King franchise informs its customers that the signature Whopper has been discontinued.[3] Whopper Freakout sparked numerous parodies, won the Cannes Lions 2008 Film Gold and Cannes Lions 2008 Integrated Lion[4], and as of January 2008, the 7 1/2 minute video at Whopperfreakout.com has received more than 1.3 million views. [5] Psyop most recently won an Emmy for Best Commercial for Coca-Cola 'Heist.'[6] [edit] Smuggler FilmsIn 2009, Smuggler partnered with veteran producer John N. Hart to form Smuggler Films. Smuggler Films produces film, television and theater content. Projects in development include Come Like Shadows, a contemporized Macbeth to be helmed by director Pete Travis (Vantage Point)[7] and The White Tiger, an adaptation of Aravind Adiga's Booker Prize winning novel. The White Tiger will be adapted by screenwriter Hanif Kureishi.[8] Smuggler Films is also adapting Once (film) for the stage, for the 2010 Broadway season. [edit] Music videosSmuggler has created videos for The Rapture, Lady Sovereign, TV on the Radio, Gnarls Barkley, The Hives, Franz Ferdinand, Nas, T.I., Juvenile, Kaiser Chiefs, Black Eyed Peas, Fatboy Slim, Britney Spears, and Cee-Lo. Director Randy Krallman recently won the Cannes Lions 2009 Film Bronze for "Zack 16."[9] [edit] Eckō viral adThe Eckō viral ad Still Free depicts graffiti artists breaking into Andrews Air Force Base and tagging Air Force One. The internet hoax was released to a few websites. It was later picked up by the internet community, eventually reaching over 17,000 websites.
